Tips for Hosting a Successful Fundraiser

July 2, 2020

Whether you’re hosting a fundraiser for work, school, charity, or a cause that is important to you, you’ll want to plan everything out beforehand. Although fundraisers are a great way to raise money, if they are not planned and executed properly they can provide underwhelming results. To ensure your fundraising event goes off without a hitch, use these five helpful tips:

Tip #1: Start With Your Closest Contacts

Your closest contacts are the best people to reach out to first since it’s likely they know about or already support your organization. These are the people who are most likely to donate during your fundraiser. Once you reach out to your closets contact, then start reaching out to your community.

Tip #2: Send Hand Written Letters First, Then Send Emails

Handwritten invitations show potential guests how much you care about them and their support. Not only does it give them something tangible to hold and read, but it also eliminates the risk of invitees overlooking the letter in their email inbox. If invitees don’t respond to your handwritten letter, follow up with an email.

Tip #3: Utilize Social Media

Social media is a great tool to use to spread the word about your fundraising event. You can create a fundraising page with details of your event, host pre-events, promote your event across various social media platforms, and much more. These posts can serve as a preview of what’s to come for your fundraising event and generate public interest and excitement.

Tip #4: Don’t Forget About Entertainment

Nothing is worse than a dull fundraising event. Make sure you include activities that your guests are sure to enjoy. If your fundraiser is happening indoors, consider including music and interactive presentations. Hosting outdoors? Set up a space for guests to play horseshoes or a bean bag toss. If your event will include younger guests, a bounce house or carnival game can keep them occupied and entertained.

One unique form of entertainment that can be used both outdoors and indoors by guests of all ages is a mechanical bull. Set up a contest to see who can stay on the bull the longest, or invite guests to let loose and show their skills when you rent a mechanical bull for your fundraising event.

Tip #5: Say Thank You

After your event, be sure to send thank you notes to everyone who was involved with your fundraising event. This is a simple thing to do and it’s a good way to build lasting relationships. Send thank-you notes to attendees, vendors, staff members, and anyone else who helped you to have a successful fundraising event.
