Inflatables Safety Concerns
November 15, 2022
A bounce house, or any kind of inflatable, can provide a ton of fun at your next party or event. Sometimes there’s just nothing better than bouncing around with friends. As much fun as using an inflatable can be, many people have safety concerns. Inflatables and bounce houses are perfectly safe when they’re operated properly, and when all safety measures are followed. As a professional Maryland inflatables rental company, we wanted to take some time today to talk about some of the different inflatables safety concerns we’ve heard over the years, as well as how they can be addressed. Using inflatables should be a fun experience but also a safe one!
Supervision of Minors Will Prevent Many Mishaps
Kids love bounce houses and inflatables, but they should never be allowed to use them unsupervised. Inflatables and bounce houses can launch kids pretty high in the air, and if they’re not careful, they could hit each other. While supervising children in a bounce house or inflatable castle, you should always follow the capacity guidelines set for that inflatable. You should also keep an eye on the children to make sure they’re not jumping too high, or playing too rough. Generally, all contact should be avoided while bouncing.
Keeping Items Out of the Inflatable Can Prevent Serious Accidents
People should go in bounce castles, but items shouldn’t. Jewelry is a big no, no. When jumping around, you want people to avoid collisions altogether, but definitely want to avoid collisions while wearing jewelry. Rings, bracelets, and necklaces, all become weapons when they’re flying toward you. You should also have anyone that enters the inflatable empty their pockets of anything hard. Basically, nothing you’d want to get hit with should be allowed to enter an inflatable. It’s always better to be safer rather than sorry.
Always Watch for Weather When Using Inflatables Outside
It’s never safe to use inflatables during a thunderstorm, or if there are high winds. It’s important to keep an eye on the weather when you’re hosting an outdoor event regardless, but it’s double important with inflatables. If it’s raining, inflatables tend to get slippery, and lightning is always a serious threat during a thunderstorm. Strong winds can also become problematic, and if you’re expecting winds, it’s imperative that you stake down all inflatables, or else they’re at risk of flying away or into someone/something.
